Sonia Sotomayor: No. 1 with a bullet

Lots and lots of buzz today about Sonia Sotomayor as a leading candidate to replace tha Soot. She's rocketing to the top of the pop charts. Here's what National Journal has to say about her. Excerpt:

U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit

Age: 54

Details: One of the nation's most prominent Hispanic judges, she is liberal and very smart. Born to a Puerto Rican family and raised in a Bronx housing project, she won highest honors at Princeton and distinction at Yale Law School. She was an assistant district attorney and commercial litigator before becoming a federal district judge and, in 1998, an appellate court judge.

Great personal story, and at 54, she'd be on the court for 30 years. But she'd be terrible on the question of race and diversity says Ed Whelan.

From the left, Joe Conason says Sotomayor is a progressive dream. But he doesn't really explain why, except that she's a liberal Latina who drives conservatives crazy. I guess that's all it takes for Conason.

Anybody know much substantive about Sotomayor's legal philosophy? Let's hear it.
