Itte Detenamo
Itte Detenamo (born September 22, 1986) is a Nauruan weightlifter competing in the +105 kg category.
Detenamo represented Nauru at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, finishing 14th in the men's 105+kg category. He won a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and three gold medals at the 2007 South Pacific Games.
He was Nauru's sole representative at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.He achieved a personal best by lifting 386 kg in the super-heavyweight category
Detenamo's father and older sister are also weightlifters.
Marcus Stephen
Marcus Ajamada Stephen (born October 1, 1969) is the current President of the Republic of Nauru, having taken office in December 2007. He is also a former top-class weightlifter, winner of seven gold medals and five silver at the Commonwealth Games, and the current president of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation and of the Nauru National Olympic Committee.
Marcus Stephen's father, Lawrence Stephen, served as a Member of the Parliament of Nauru from 1971-1977 and 1980-1986. He is related to the prominent Keke family of Nauru.
Reanna Solomon
Reanna Solomon, born December 16, 1981, is a Nauruan weightlifter. She was the first female Nauruan athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, and remains one of the only two Nauruans ever to have won a Commonwealth Games gold, the other being Marcus Stephen.
Solomon competed in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. She lifted 127.5 kg in the Women's 75kg+ Clean and Jerk, winning the gold medal, and won another gold medal by lifting 227.5 kg in the Women's 75kg+ Combined. In the Women's 75kg+ Snatch she took the bronze, lifting 100 kg.
Solomon also took part in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
Yukio Peter
Yukio Peter (born 29 January, 1984 in Aiwo) is a weightlifter from Nauru.
He finished in eighth place at the 2004 Olympic Games in the Men's 69 kg division.
In December 2008, Yukio won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Limassol, Cyprus. Competing in the 77kg category, he snatched 145kg and clean and jerked 185kg.
Ludwig Scotty
Ludwig Derangadage Scotty (born June 20, 1948, in Anabar) is a political figure from the Pacific nation of Nauru and was President of the Republic of Nauru. He served as President from May 29, 2003 to August 8, 2003, then from June 22, 2004 to his ousting in a vote of no confidence on December 19, 2007.
Ruben Kun
Ruben James Tullen Kun (b. March 30, 1942 is a political figure from the Pacific nation of Nauru and was President of the Republic of Nauru.
In early career, Ruben Kun is a lawyer by training.
Kun served as finance minister, prior to assuming Presidential office.
His son, Roland Kun is also a political figure from the Pacific nation of Nauru. and His nephew, Russell Kun has also been elected to the Parliament of Nauru.
Derog Gioura
Derog Gioura (born September 1, 1932) is a Nauruan political figure. He was President of the Republic of Nauru (acting) in 2003.
During his brief Presidency, Gioura underwent a period of enforced absence from the country, since there were concerns for his health; he received a series of medical treatment in Australia.
By the year 2007, Nauruan political figures of Gioura's generation had been somewhat eclipsed by a younger set of leaders: in December 2007 the incoming President of Nauru Marcus Stephen was nearly four decades younger than Derog Gioura. While there have been a few changes of President since 2003, Gioura has not resumed the office since relinquishing it in that year.
Kennan Adeang
Kennan Ranibok Adeang (b. December 23, 1942) is a Nauruan political figure and was President of the Republic of Nauru during a number of short periods of office in the 1980s.
His son, David Adeang, has served as Foreign Minister of Nauru and served briefly as Speaker of the Parliament of Nauru in March - April 2008, having previously maintained a sometimes chequered association with the Nauru First Party, which, however, had yet to be founded during Kennan Adeang's periods of Presidential office.
Renos Doweiya
Renos Doweiya (born 16th November 1983) is a Nauruan weightlifter.
At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 he finished in third place in the 77 kg weight class. However, this was later upgraded to a silver medal after Indian Satheesha Rai was disqualified due to doping. He also won gold medals at the Oceania Games, in both 2001 and 2002.
Kinza Clodumar
Kinza Godfrey Clodumar (born February 8, 1945) is a political figure from Nauru who was President of Nauru from 1997 to 1998.
Clodumar was born in Boe. He is a member of the indigenous population of Nauru, and he is concerned with environmental issues. He was a Member of Parliament for many years and served as Minister of Finance from 2003 until October 2004.
