From model to actress? Peaches Geldof mingles with Hollywood's finest in Cannes

It's not easy being an international playgirl, but Peaches Geldof stoically soldiered on.

The party girl popped up at the star-strewn French film festival yesterday for a spot of celebrity schmoozing.

Attending a bash for Nowhere Man - artist Sam Taylor-Wood's biopic of John Lennon's formative years - she eschewed red carpet glitz for a grungier look.

Dressed in a thigh-skimming black silk frock that exposed her leg tattoos, shoe-boots and a sequinned biker jacket, her only concessions to old-school Hollywood glamour were a retro hairdo, false eyelashes and vampy make-up.

Considering she's already flirted with TV presenting, DJing, modelling and singing, perhaps Peaches is preparing for another career change - this time into acting.

After all, she's certainly no shrinking violet in front of the camera.

Or maybe the Boomtown Brat just needed to beat a hasty retreat from London.

Allegedly at loggerheads with her father, the 20-year-old had been hiding out in a Mayfair hotel room rather than staying in Bob's plush Battersea pad.

He is said to have had a series of rows with his daughter over her constant state of undress - triggered by beach pictures of the 20-year-old topless in February.

Last week, meanwhile, she debuted for saucy underwear firm Ultimo, posing in a 1950s-style shoot in skimpy lingerie.

As if that didn't guarantee enough exposure, Peaches also squeezed her curves into a skimpy silver jumpsuit for the opening night of Pam Hogg's fashion boutique in London.

But then, it's a wonder the aspiring model and It Girl has time to party at all.

Officially based in New York where she is trying to break into journalism, Peaches is editor-at-large and joint publisher of her own women's magazine, the already-floundering Disappear Here, and a columnist for hip US publication Nylon.
