Has Susan Boyle got a new rival? Second Les Miserables singer wows Britain's Got Talent

By Lizzie Smith

Susan Boyle is a hard act to follow for any Britain's Got Talent contestant.

But spare a thought for talented Welsh singer Jamie Pugh.

The 37-year-old innocently picked a Les Miserables song to perform for the judges - unaware that the Scottish spinster had already wowed them with her own version of I Dreamed A Dream.

Little was he to know that by the time his audition was broadcast she would have won worldwide fame with her belting cover of the musical number.

Adding to his troubles Jamie, who features on tomorrow night's episiode of the show, is possibly the most nervous contestant ever seen.

He hasn’t slept for three nights before his audition and admits he's worried his nerves might just prove too much.

He explains: 'I suffer from severe stage fright, it has totally crippled me, and I’ve come today to see if I can get through three minutes.'

Keep on dreaming: He may be a great singer, but Jamie didn't realise he would be competing against Susan Boyle

Performing in front of the live audience is miles away from Jamie’s day to day job: 'I work three days a week driving a van and in the evenings I deliver pizza. I’m just a simple bloke from the Valleys, but my dream is to sing at the Royal Variety in front of a live orchestra.'

Jamie’s biggest worry is walking out on stage and freezing, but with partner Donna watching on helplessly from the audience he launches into Bring Him Home from the hit West End show.

Donna is up on her feet as Jamie starts his faultless and emotional performance.

All three Judges look spellbound and at the end of the song the whole theatre is on its feet, bringing tears and a look of shock to Jamie’s face.

Amanda Holden tells him: 'It is a beautiful song and that was amazing.'

Piers Morgan adds: 'I wasn’t expecting that kind of performance from you. You deliver pizza’s at night for goodness sake and you come on this stage, one of the biggest talent shows in the world and do a performance like that, I thought it was incredible.'

And even Simon Cowell agrees: 'I think I got how important the last three minutes of your life just were. And to get the reaction you just got from the audience must be unbelievable.

'It’s people like you the reason why we come to Wales every year, I think you could be a special talent, but you have to start believing in yourself'

A shell-shocked and emotional Jamie walks off stage saying: 'For this brief moment I feel complete.'

But has he got any chance against the sensation that is Susan Boyle?

Jamie isn't alone is his attempts to impress the judges.

One duo joining him on tomorrow's show are Sue Son and Janine - also known as Addicted.

The 23 year old students met at school and have been best friends ever since.

Their classical act sees Janine on the keyboards and Sue on the electrical violin, performing Janine's own composition - Chance.

The Judges are not impressed and don’t take long to buzz with Simon saying: 'I think you are both talented musicians, especially you with the violin, but I don’t think the two go together at all. I thought the song was dreary and indulgent and I don’t see where you are going with this.'

But as a disheartened Addicted leave the stage the Judges talk between themselves - and agree violinist Sue should get a second chance.

As Janine watches from the side of the stage Sue goes back on alone.

Simon tells her: 'We think you are really good but none of us think the act is very good. Will you come back to audition on your own tomorrow?'

Sue looks torn with the decision - does she betray her best friend? But with the audience all shouting 'do it' and with Simon pushing for an answer she soon agrees.

The next day Sue performs Storm by Vanessa Mae - and gets a standing ovation from the audience.

Amanda said: 'I know it was a tough decision to leave your best friend, but that is going to be the best decision you ever made because that was phenomenal'.

Next up is a change of pace, as the auditions move to Glasgow.

Three mature Scottish ladies are on a mission to promote and raise awareness of a rather unusual past time.

Christine, 63, Pat, 70 and Nancy, 81, are known as Knit ‘n’ Natter.

'So I’m clear', asks presenter Ant, 'you are going to go on stage, finger knit and have a chat with each other, and that’s the act?'.

Christine explains: 'It’s about empowering people'.

Pat takes the lead as the three ladies take their seats and give the audience and the Judges instructions on how to go about finger knitting.

But with a lot of knitting and little natter going on its not long before the dreaded buzzes go off.

'Here’s the problem,' explains Simon. 'I don’t think anyone will find it that interesting, If it was me I’d have you all in different costumes and have some dancers.'

Following on from Shaheen and Hollie's winning performances in the last two shows is another child singer.

Twelve-year-old Callum Francis from Hertfordshire sings Consider Yourself from the musical Oliver.

He tells Ant and Dec: 'I love singing and dancing I practise everywhere, the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, anywhere I can.'

With his proud parents waiting in the wings, Callum brings a smile to Simon’s face.

Piers comments that Callum has 'the cheekiest grin we’ve ever had', and Amanda says 'it was a very natural and unspoilt performance and you have a raw talent'.

But Simon has some criticisms: 'I think you have more in you than just a safe performance from Oliver, I think you are a very talented young man but I’ve seen that kind of audition a thousand times.'

Will Callum get three yes’s he needs and will his dreams of performing on the big stage come true?
