Malaysia battles beer, dogs as Indonesia shines
William Pesek
If Malaysian leader Najib Razak thought he already had problems at home, now he also needs to worry about a "Jokowi effect" spreading from neighbouring Indonesia. Last Monday, fresh-faced Joko "Jokowi" Widodo took the helm of the world's fourth-most-populous nation. Throughout Southeast Asia, young voters have been gripped by the rise of this small businessman – effectively a nobody – to his nation's highest office. Jokowi isn't the scion of any political dynasty or wealthy family, the normal routes to power in Southeast Asia. He's a self-made outsider known for hands-on solutions and personal incorruptibility.
Voters have to ask themselves why Jokowi's story can't be replicated in their own countries, many of which are crying out for more credible, effective leaders. Najib has particular reason to be concerned. His personal background – as the son of Malaysia's 1970s Prime Minister Abdul Razak Hussein – is one of privilege. More importantly, even as hopes rise that Indonesia might finally achieve its true growth potential, Malaysia seems consumed by petty political infighting and religious small-mindedness.
Najib is hardly alone here. If anything, next-door Thailand seems even more paralyzed by political divisions. But Malaysia's failings are especially frustrating because they are so unnecessary.
Consider this: Jokowi is Indonesia's fifth president since dictator Suharto was ousted in 1998, and the second to be elected directly by the nation's 250 million people. In contrast, the political establishment that's controlled Malaysia for six decades is still trying to silence opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. Since 1998, Anwar has faced many questionable trials and prison sentences on charges ranging from corruption to sodomy. The latest verdict is due this week – just days after Jokowi publicly buried the hatchet with his political opponents, who pledged to work with him to move Indonesia forward.
Malaysians are understandably angry about surging living costs. Meanwhile, earlier this month, local politicians from Najib's United Malays National Organisation raised a stink about provocative posters for Oktoberfest, which some Muslim groups tried to ban. There's even a debate among some UMNO members about whether Muslims should be allowed to touch dogs.
Even though Malaysia's government is technically secular, religion is increasingly being wielded as a political weapon. This week, a delegation of opposition lawmakers visiting Canberra urged Australia to speak out against creeping Islamization in Malaysia. "In an environment where the state subtly and indirectly endorses criticisms and intimidation against a minority, it is easier for the messages of radical groups like IS to take hold," delegation leader Rafizi Ramli told reporters.
Malaysia cannot afford to get bogged down in such side issues. To increase the country's competitiveness, Najib should have begun scaling back the four-decade-old affirmation action program that favors the ethnic Malay majority; instead, he's expanded it. Malaysian leaders should be striving to improve the investment climate through stronger corporate governance, and expanding education and training to raise productivity. Subsidies for state-connected companies need to be scaled back and eventually eliminated.
No one's saying that Indonesia doesn't face immense hurdles, too. As skilled and well-meaning as he may be, Jokowi can't single-handedly eradicate the endemic corruption and dysfunction that has relegated millions of Indonesians to poverty. Despite the current bonhomie in Jakarta, he still confronts a determined and well-financed opposition keen on protecting vested interests.
But Malaysians should remember that globalisation enables all economies to grow quickly. If their country refuses to open up and become a true meritocracy – the kind of place where a figure like Jokowi could come to power through the ballot box – neighbours like Indonesia and the Philippines will steal away investment and industries. Then the problems they're focusing on today won't seem so large.

A VERY WELL WRITTEN LETTER INDEED !!!
A Malaysian diaspora speaks up ...
I am a female Chinese Malaysian, living in the Washington DC area in the United States. I have read many of the letters that often talk about foreign countries when the writers have no real knowledge of actually living in those countries. Many draw conclusions about what those countries are like after hearing it from someone else or by
reading and hearing about them in the media or after four years in a college town in those countries.
I finished ST PM with outstanding results from the prestigious St. George's Girls School in Penang . Did I get a university place from the Malaysian government? Nothing ... With near perfect scores, I had nothing, while my Malay friends were getting offers to go overseas. Even those with 2As got into university. I was so depressed. I was my parent's last hope for getting the family out of poverty and at 18, I thought I had failed my parents.
Today, I understand it was the Malaysian Government that had failed me and my family because of its discriminatory policies.
Fortunately, I did not give up and immediately did research at the Malaysian American Commission on Education Exchange (MACEE) to find a university in the US that would accept me and provide all the finances. My family and friends thought I was crazy, being the youngest of nine children of a very poor carpenter. Anything that required a fee was out of our reach.
Based on merit and my extra curricular activities of community service in secondary school, I received full tuition scholarship, work study, and grants to cover the four years at a highly competitive US university.
Often, I took 21 credits each semester, 15 credits each term while working 20 hours each week and maintaining a 3.5 CGPA. A couple of semesters, I also received division scholarships and worked as a TA (teaching assistant) on top of everything else.
For the work study, I worked as a custodian (yes, cleaning toilets), carpet layer, computer lab assistant, grounds keeping, librarian, painter, tour guide, etc. If you understand the US credit system, you will understand this is a heavy load.
Why did I do it? This is because I learnt as a young child from my parents that hard work is an opportunity, to give my best in everything, and to take pride in the work I do. I walked away with a double major and a minor with honours but most of all a great lesson in humility and a great respect for those who are forced to labour in so-called `blue collar' positions. Those of you who think you know all about Australia , US, or the West, think again. Unless you have really lived in these countries, i.e. paid a mortgage, paid taxes, taken part in elections, you do not understand the level of commitment and hard work it takes to be successful in these countries, not just for immigrants but for people who have lived here for generations.
These people are where they are today because of hard work. (Of course, I am not saying everyone in the US is hardworking ... There is always the lazy lot which lives off of someone else's hard work. Fortunately, they are the minority ...)
Every single person, anywhere, should have the opportunity to succeed if they want to put in the effort and be accountable for their own actions. In the end, they should be able to reap what they sow.
It is bearable that opportunities are limited depending on how well-off financially one's family is but when higher education opportunities are race-based, like it is in Malaysia ; it is downright cruel for those who see education as the only way out of poverty.
If you want to say discrimination is here in the US , yes, of course it is. Can you name a country where it doesn't happen? But let me tell you one thing - if you go looking for it, you will find it. But in Malaysia , you don't have to go look for it because it seeks you out, slaps you in your face every which way you turn, and is
sanctioned by law!
Here in the US , my children have the same opportunity to go to school and learn just like their black, white, and immigrant friends. At school, they eat the same food, play the same games, are taught the same classes and when they are 18, they will still have the same opportunities. would I want to bring my children back to Malaysia? So they can suffer the state-sanctioned discrimination as the non-malays have for over 50 years?
The injustice the non-Malay have to suffer in frightening silence is the most damaging problem one has to face throughout one's life. You just have to look at the mighty Govt structures which completely favours only one race, the Umno Malay. The Chinese and Indians are treated no better than the illegal Indonesians.
Racism and corruption are openly practised by the Malay politicians everywhere, Courts, schools/Uni, police, govt offices, contracts, GLC, NEP, ISA, local Govt. It's so powerful and intimidating that you walk with fear and keep your mouth shut on anything and everything political.
Religion is taboo unless you talk good about Islam. As for being a slave in the foreign country, I am a happy 'slave' earning a good income as an IT project manager.
I work five days a week; can talk bad about the president when I want to; argue about politics, race and religion openly; gather with more than 50 friends and family when I want (no permit needed) and I don't worry about the police pulling me over because they say I ran the light when I didn't.
Have we seen the light at the end of the tunnel yet (Anwar Ibrahim)? Or is it the head light of an oncoming Umno train? Lets hope its the former for the sake of all fair minded Malaysians.
The dream of a Malaysian 'race' in the future is nowhere in sight with the present BN Govt.

How To Rape With Ropes
Bangladeshi caught trying to rape cow
BATU PAHAT: The Parit Sulong community here are shocked with recent news that a man attempted to have "sex" with a female cow at a palm oil plantation near here.
The man, identified as a Bangladesh national in his late 30s, was caught with his kain pelikat up to his waist in a comprimising situation with the year-old cow by the latter's owner when he went to check on his cattle last Monday.
The cattle's owner then gave chase and caught the suspect who was then handed over to the authorities in the 5.30pm incident.
It is learnt that the suspect, who works in a furniture factory nearby, was believed to have attempted similar unnatural acts to cattle in the vicinity about six-months ago but was let off with a warning by villagers.
Cattle owner Sukiman Ab Majid, 54, said he was curious to see why one of his cows was pushed-over and had its legs tied by an unidentified man during a routine inspection.
"What shocked me next was that the suspect, wearing a t-shirt with his kain pelikat above his waist, was attempting a disgusting act with the cow," he said when met today.
Sukiman said he immediately gave chase and apprehended the suspect in some nearby bushes before alerting the police.
He added that a similar incident had occured to a cow belonging to another cattle owner within the same area about six-months ago.
"In that incident, a female cow was found dead after it suffocated on some ropes and was believed to have been "raped"," he said.
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat police chief, Assistant Commissioner Din Ahmad said the suspect is in custody and have been remanded pending investigations.
"We (police) are investigating the suspect's motive as the cow was found to have all its legs bound. However, police can only charge the suspect for tresspassing on private property as he was not caught having unnatural sex with the animal.
"Investigators will be looking at all angles as six-months ago there was a similar case in the area where a cow died due to suffocation after being allegedly "raped" but the owner did not lodge a report with us," he said.
Sexy Lecturer turning to Prostitute
Sexy university lecturer Melviana Fu prostituted herself after losing money at Resort World Sentosa casino
Fu reportedly started stealing after she lost money at Resort World Sentosa Casino.
She offered to have sex with a 47 year old man in exchange for cash. However, when the man was bathing in the hotel room, she stole $6,300 in cash from his wallet as well as a credit card.
After her initial ‘success’, Fu repeated the same scam on two other 39 year old men, stealing their belongings after having sex with them.
It is not revealed how much she charged for her ‘services.
Fu was a lecturer in a Malaysian private university and also worked as a part-time model.
Red Durian - The Smelliest Fruit On Earth
In Sabah, red durian is fried with onions and chilli and served as a side dish. Red-fleshed durian is traditionally added to sayur, an Indonesian soup made from freshwater fish. Ikan brengkes is fish cooked in a durian-based sauce, traditional in Sumatra. Traditionally Bollen pastry, specialty of Bandung is filled with banana and cheese. Today Bollen durian is also available, it is pastry filled with durian. Dried durian flesh can be made into kripik durian (durian chips).
Red durian (D. dulcis) has a deep caramel flavour with a turpentine odour while red-fleshed durian (D. graveolens) emits a fragrance of roasted almonds. Among the varieties of D. zibethinus, Thai varieties are sweeter in flavour and less odourous than Malay ones. The degree of ripeness has an effect on the flavour as well. Three scientific analyses of the composition of durian aroma — from 1972, 1980, and 1995 — each found a mix of volatile compounds including esters, ketones, and different sulphur compounds, with no agreement on which may be primarily responsible for the distinctive odour.

The Best Sex Blogger
POST MORTEM Sumptuous Erotica: Simply CRAZY!
SINGAPORE - Just what were Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee thinking when they posted sexually explicit videos of themselves for all to see?
These had appeared on Sumptuous Erotica, a blog where the two young Malaysians uploaded photos and videos of their sex acts - and invited swinging couples to join them for sex as well.
The blog became a cause celebre here and in Malaysia last week because Mr Tan is a National University of Singapore (NUS) law student. Miss Lee, who has just graduated from a Malaysian university, is looking for work.
The duo have now pulled down the blog after Miss Lee's mother went ballistic. But the site still carries a link to a YouTube video where Mr Tan says: "I don't see how our lives have been negatively affected by this whole saga." Miss Lee also said she saw nothing wrong in what they had done. Whatever their own views, many more sober-minded folk may be muttering that it was a "crazy" thing to do.
Pretty? Work of art?
"Crazy" is a word the dictionary says is derived from the 14th century Middle English word "crasen", meaning to crush or shatter - perhaps as in shattering the mould or breaking away from the old? The duo may well embrace this definition of crazy.
But the word also sounds closer to "akrasia", the Greek for intemperance, acting against one's better judgment, or lacking control over oneself.
So akrasia is the antonym to "autonomy" from the Greek "auto" and "nomia", meaning self- law or self-governance.
If akrasia is the opposite of self-governance, then it is misdirected autonomy in the sense of wilfully doing something one knows is likely to have bad consequences. In short, one knows better. This law student knows or should know better than to parade his sex life out there.
How can akrasia come about? Socrates debated this in the dialogue written by Plato called Protagoras. He surmised that there can, in fact, be no such thing as akrasia. It is logically impossible, he reasoned, since bad things harm one, which makes one unhappy, so no one chooses bad things since no one wants to be unhappy. Thus, no one goes willingly towards the bad, which is why akrasia is imaginary, Socrates said.
But few people behave as rationally as Socrates might think. Every day, millions of people behave in ways they know are bad for themselves - like eat unhealthy food and not exercise.
Aristotle put a different spin to akrasia, arguing that it stems from opinion, not reason as Socrates imagined. For example, reasoning from known facts, I know smoking is bad for me. But reason also tells me that some smokers have the genetic fortitude such that they will never develop lung cancer. Next, I form the opinion that I might be among such people, so I smoke.
So the akrasia in smoking flows not from reason - which would align only with the good, Socrates said - but from opinion, which may or may not be aligned with what is good for me.
Let's go back to the daring duo. Was their akrasia due to opinion? Miss Lee said: "To us, the pictures... were a work of art.. We wanted... the world... to see how pretty it was."
Unwise or calculated?
In other words, reason might have told them their action was unwise for the offence it would cause. Even if they cared naught for the world, they clearly cared about offending their families, given that they have taken down the blog after Miss Lee's mother objected to it. So perhaps they had gone ahead because of the view that their work was art, not pornography.
But wait, you may say. Perhaps their act was a cold, rational one to gain fame - or infamy - in the Internet's attention economy. With abundant content freely available on the Internet, attention is the limiting factor. Personal branding through the unusual, egregious or grotesque may grab some attention. Seen in this light, putting up sex videos and pictures was a reasonable move to garner eyeballs and attention.
They themselves say they value fame. Their blog has had more than 100,000 visitors. Mr Tan said: "This is a critical period... we intend to use... to build a following... for more lasting fame."
In the Internet age where youngsters have gone on to earn millions - think Justin Bieber - after posting YouTube clips of themselves, megastar fame with megabucks to match is achievable even through notoriety.
So while more sober or just older people might think these youngsters crazy, this could all be just a well reasoned move from which the good, in their opinion, trumps the bad. They might change that opinion at 40 - or not - depending if they make it big in some way from their fame.
No regrets now but later?
Still, what kind of individuals might be willing to resort to such an "akratic" move? Modern psychology sheds some light on this with the concept of "hyperbolic discounting".
Psychologists have done experiments to show that people prefer a smaller reward given sooner, rather than a bigger one given later. The later the reward, the more greatly its value is discounted.
It is reflected in the attitude that we ought to "eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die". Enjoy first, and suffer the consequences later.
Such views might explain the mental process and behaviour of drug addicts and habitual gamblers, groups who lack the self-control to say "no" to their bad habits. Numerous experiments have shown that these people show a tendency towards "hyperbolic discounting" with respect to issues of self-control.
They value the pleasure of the drug high now or the rush at the poker table today, much more than the mundane rewards in the future of a day's honest work. They choose smaller payoffs now over larger payoffs in the future.
Many ordinary folk similarly underestimate the future consequences of gluttony, inebriation, fornication, infidelity or any other vice or guilty fun.
So akrasia is likely to be seen in people who tend to choose smaller and sooner rewards over possibly larger but later ones.
Akrasia is not temporary insanity, impatience, impetuosity or irrationality - but just something that some people are more likely to do after reasoning through and forming an opinion about what is best for them now, without sufficient regard for the ill effects later, if any.
Craziness, it turns out, may have little to do with irrationality and everything to do with one's opinion of the virtues of an act.
Exhibitionism is, of course, not addiction to substance abuse or gambling. The duo may or may not go on to win fame and fortune. Call me old-fashioned, but I would think few of us would call what they did wise anyway.
Singapore Thanked Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for Water Industry
S'pore - thanks to Malaysia's Dr M, our water industry is now worth $ 9 BILLION!
Bet me, with the current corrupted government doing nothing to preserve water, one of this day Malaysia will buy treated water from Singapore when its river dry up.
Fresh water has always been a precious resource to Singapore . Being a tiny island with high urban population constrained by its land size, modern Singapore never have enough water of its own to support its population, but this is about to change....
In 1927, Singapore signed a water agreement with Johor to construct a pipeline transporting raw water from Johor to Singapore . During the Battle of Singapore in 1942, the pipeline was destroyed, which left Singapore with water reserves that could last at most two weeks. According to Lee Kuan Yew, this was one of his motives to envision water self-sufficiency for Singapore later when he became the city-state's Prime Minister.
Immediately after the British awarded self-governance in 1959, the Singaporean government under Lee signed 2 water agreements with Malaya in 1961 and 1962. Under these agreements, Singapore will build two water treatment plants in Singapore and a new, expanded pipeline from Johor at its expenses. Singapore will also supply treated water to Johor at far below the cost of treating the water, and in return, Malaya would also supply raw water to Singapore below market prices. The agreements would last till 2011 and 2061 respectively.
In 1965, when Singapore was expelled from the Malaysian Federation, it received the first water threat from then Malaysian Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, who said that "if Singapore ’s foreign policy is prejudicial to Malaysia ’s interests, we could always bring pressure to bear on them by threatening to turn off the water in Johor".
Mahathir tried to take advantage
In response, Singapore began to construct more water schemes on the island throughout the 1970s. This include the damming of river estuaries to allow for greater storage volumes, which resulted in larger artificial reservoirs that collect water from carefully managed catchment areas. These reservoirs would later be responsible for 20% of Singapore 's water needs in 2012.
But as Singapore began to rapidly industrialize, the amount became insufficient. Thus in 1982 the city-state was interested to build a dam on the Johor River in Malaysia and an associated new water treatment plant there, with the construction costs all paid by Singapore, in exchange, Malaysia was to allow Singapore to purchase more than the 250 million gallons of water per day as negotiated in the 1962 agreement.
Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad however, decided to make it difficult for Singapore . After six years of difficult negotiations, the 2 countries finally signed the agreement that allowed the construction of the dam. It was a heavy price for Singapore, who agreed to pay RM320 million as compensation for the permanent loss of use of the land and its associated revenue, a premium of RM18,000 per hectare of land, and an annual rent of RM30 for every 1,000 square foot of the land. The cost of building and maintaining the dam would be borne by Singapore , and upon the expiration of water deals, both the dam and the treatment plant are to be returned to Malaysia .
Mahathir believed that Singapore couldn't survive without Malaysia 's water
Emboldened by this victory, Mahathir mistakenly believed that he had caught Singapore 's main weakness. In 2000, attempts to re-negotiate with Malaysia to secure water supply beyond 2061 failed, and in 2003, Malaysia again warned Singapore that once the first treaty expired in 2011, the water prices would be raised by 200 times from 3 sen per 1,000 gallons to RM6.25. The government of Singapore decided that, instead of paying a higher price and continue its water dependence on Johor, it will go all-out to achieve water-sufficiency.
But Kuan Yew said NO!
The first thing Singapore did was to invest heavily in water technologies and gathered the world's most renowned water management scientists into the island. Academics, researchers, scientists and experts from across the globe were invited to Singapore to help it devise a water solution. Desalination and recycled water were identified. Utilizing advanced technologies, Singapore proceed to construct one of the world's largest desalination plant in 2005, now accounted for 10% of the country's water needs. Singapore 's second plant, even bigger, is scheduled to complete in 2013, providing another 10%.
Desalination removes salt and other minerals from sea, turning sea water into fresh water. There is almost no controversy on this. The issues come when dealing with recycled water. By that it means waste water, including those from toilets and drains, is to be purified back for use. The concerns lay on whether all harmful materials, pathogens or micro-organisms could be effectively removed.
Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize was established to award $300,000 for scientists of any nationalities who made breakthrough in water treatment technologies and brought them to Singapore . In 2003, Singapore started its first wastewater recycling plant. Under constant advices and supervision from scientists and researchers, by 2012, the country's 5 wastewater plants successfully marketed themselves and provide enough clean water to meet 30% of the island's needs.
‘Public acceptance is not guaranteed at the start. Recycled water has been rejected in Australia , where people term it ‘yuck’ water,’ said Dr Eduardo Araral, assistant dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. ‘Singaporeans accepted it both because they are pragmatic and because they trust the Government’s promise that it is safe to drink,’ he added.
In 2006, Singapore identified the commercial value of water and environmental technologies, especially to water-scarce Middle East, North Africa and various First World nations, and also countries who currently lack proper and effective water treatment system. The government invested an initial $330 million to promote the new industry and to make Singapore a potential global hub for water research and development. Since 2008, the city-state hosts the Singapore International Water Week, a key event for the global water industry, every year.
Water sufficiency to exceed 70%
Over the years, Singapore has turned what used to be a scarcity into its strength and now the water industry is seen as a new growth sector for the country. The government's commitment to industrial promotion, easy access to research funds, and readily available talents, help built up a new robust water industries in Singapore amid the European financial crisis.
Kow Juan Tiang, group director for Environment & Infrastructure Solutions at IE Singapore, said: “If you look at the water industries in Singapore , it encompasses companies from many countries. Our financial sector worked closely with those companies venturing overseas here for projects to secure technology, solution, and most importantly, money financing, at a competitive advantage compared to otherwise in (crisis-laden) Europe .”
Goh Chee Kiong, director of Cleantech Building & Infrastructure Solutions at Economic Development Board, said: “What is helping this sector is the fact that Singapore has a vibrant manufacturing industry comprising chemicals, pharmaceuticals, semiconductor, oil and gas, and they are becoming prove points and demonstration sites for water companies to utilize their technology in Singapore before scaling up to the rest of the world.”
The push to develop the industry has drawn attention from some of the world's largest companies like General Electric and Siemens, who invested and created local water companies such as Hyflux that have expanded overseas. "What they are looking to do is create a virtual market for the water business which is much larger than Singapore ," said Mr Glen Daigger, chief technology officer of CH2M Hill, an US-based industry consulting firm. " Singapore 's ambition to become a water technologies hub in Asia is now a step closer."
With technology as the key driver, the water industries in Singapore experienced strong growth. In just five years, Singapore was propelled from a water-challenged nation to an internationally-recognised name in the global water community - with its water industry blossomed to over 100 companies. The city-state successfully built up a vibrant water industry cluster, with operations which span the value chain, including R&D centres, equipment suppliers, system integrators and EPC firms, project developers and financing organizations.
In 2011, Singapore 's water sufficiency rose to 60%. At the same time the 1961 water agreement with Malaysia expired. Singapore informed Johor it would not be renewing the agreement. The next focus would be on total self-sufficiency before 2061, the date when the second agreement lapsed.
Singapore's water sufficiency to top 70% next year, on track for self-sufficient in 2061
Open Letter to Barack Hussein Obama from Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
Open Letter to Barack Hussein Obama, President of the United States of America
By Dr. Mahathir Mohamad :
Former Prime Minister of Malaysia
Dear Mr. President,
I did not vote for you in the Presidential Election because I am Malaysian.
But I consider myself one of your constituents because what you do or say
will affect me and my country as well.
I welcome your promise for change. Certainly your country, the United States of
America needs a lot of changes.
That is because America and Americans have become the most hated people in the world.
Even Europeans dislike your arrogance. Yet you were once admired and
liked because you freed a lot of countries from conquest and subjugation.
It is the custom on New Year’s day for people to make resolutions.
You must have listed your good resolutions already. But may I politely
suggest that you also resolve to do the following in pursuit of Change.
1) Stop killing people. The United States is too fond of killing
people in order to achieve its objectives. You call it war, but today’s
wars are not about professional soldiers fighting and killing each other.
It is about killing people, ordinary innocent people by the hundreds of
thousands. Whole countries will be devastated.
War is primitive, the cavemen’s way of dealing with a problem.
Stop your arms build up and your planning for future wars.
2) Stop indiscriminate support of Israeli killers with your money and your weapons. The planes and the bombs killing the people of Gaza are from you.
3) Stop applying sanctions against countries which cannot do the same against you.
In Iraq your sanctions killed 500,000 children through depriving them of medicine and food. Others were born deformed.
What have you achieved with this cruelty? Nothing except the hatred of the victims and right-thinking people.
4) Stop your scientists and researchers from inventing new and more diabolical weapons to kill more people more efficiently.
5) Stop your arms manufacturers from producing them. Stop your sales of arms to the world. It is blood money that you earn. It is un-Christian.
6) Stop trying to democratize all the countries of the world. Democracy may work for the United States but it does not always work for other countries.
Don’t kill people because they are not democratic. Your crusade to democratize countries has killed more people than the authoritarian
Governments which you overthrew. And you have not succeeded anyway.
7) Stop the casinos which you call financial institutions. Stop hedge funds, derivatives and currency trading. Stop banks from lending non-existent money by the billions.
Regulate and supervise your banks. Jail the miscreants who made profits from abusing the system.
8) Sign the Kyoto Protocol and other international agreements.
9) Show respect for the United Nations.
I have many other resolutions for change which I think you should consider and undertake.
But I think you have enough on your plate for this 2012th year of the Christian Era.
If you can do only a few of what I suggest, you will be remembered by
the world as a great leader. Then the United States will again be
the most admired nation. Your embassies will be able to take down
the high fences and razor-wire coils that surround them.
May I wish you a Happy New Year and a great Presidency.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad

More than 2,000 people attended a rally in Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya, organised by United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia, known locally as Dong Zong, on Sunday to protest against a government plan which they claim to have sidelined vernacular schools.
KUALA LUMPUR - An influential association of Chinese schools held a rally on Sunday against a government plan to overhaul the education system that the group and its supporters say disregards the importance of the mother tongue and sidelines vernacular schools.
More than 2,000 people, including opposition members and civil liberties groups, attended the two-hour peaceful rally held by the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia, also known as Dong Zong.
They carried banners that say "We protest against the National School Curriculum replacing Vernacular Schools Curriculum".
The rally was the second held by the association in two months, amid a growing discontent over the country's education system.
Durian KING
The durian is the fruit of several tree species belonging to the genus Durio and the Malvaceae family (although some taxonomists place Durio in a distinct family, Durionaceae).
Widely known and revered in southeast Asia as the "king of fruits", the durian is distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and formidable thorn-covered husk. The fruit can grow as large as 30 centimetres (12 in) long and 15 centimetres (6 in) in diameter, and it typically weighs one to three kilograms (2 to 7 lb). Its shape ranges from oblong to round, the colour of its husk green to brown, and its flesh pale yellow to red, depending on the species.
The edible flesh emits a distinctive odour, that is strong and penetrating even when the husk is intact. Some people regard the durian as pleasantly fragrant; others find the aroma overpowering and revolting. The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine, and gym socks. The odour has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in southeast Asia.
The durian, native to Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, has been known to the Western world for about 600 years. The nineteenth-century British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace famously described its flesh as "a rich custard highly flavoured with almonds". The flesh can be consumed at various stages of ripeness, and it is used to flavour a wide variety of savoury and sweet edibles in Southeast Asian cuisines. When cooked, the seeds also can be eaten.
There are 30 recognised Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit. Durio zibethinus is the only species available in the international market: other species are sold in their local regions. There are hundreds of durian cultivars; many consumers express preferences for specific cultivars, which fetch higher prices in the market.

PUSH-POCKET IN KUALA LUMPUR
I am sure you all have heard of ‘pick pocket’.
A new trend ‘push pocket’.
Read on… for your own good
A few days ago a new type of crime has surfaced in town.
It goes something like this:- Somebody slips a hand-phone into your pocket, sometimes it could be just a wallet with an identity card and a few ringgit.
A few minutes later, the ‘owner’ comes up and confronts you, the ‘thief ‘.
He makes a big commotion that you stole his stuff.
You, caught unaware, are then pulled aside by the ‘owner’ for a settlement. You are intimidated and threatened that if you do not pay up the police will be brought in.
If you pay up, this ‘owner’ lets you go..
If not, the police are brought in.
Another strange thing is that there always seems to be a ‘witness’ to your ‘theft’.
I am told this often happens to foreigners at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
or even at LRT trains.
Given that you’re ‘guilty until proven innocent’ as far as the Malaysian police are concerned, I understand some poor people are in jail for these ‘offences’.
At the KLIA, the ‘owner’ throws his hand-phone and wallet with the few ringgit notes into the luggage trolley of a just arrived passenger.
The drama unfolds a few minutes later.
The real culprit has easily convinced our Malaysian police to arrest the real victim (if he has not paid up the ‘settlement’ demand).
This is a very serious matter.
This is another form of extortionists operating in broad daylight.
They are disgusting criminals who will do anything to rob and steal. The sickening part of the whole scenario is that unless you pay the ‘quoted settlement’ money, they will put you in real trouble by calling the police..
The real culprit gets back his hand-phone and wallet but the real victim ( i.e. could be any one of us) is thrown into the police lock up and charged in court.
So do be very careful, otherwise you may end up as a ‘thief’ as you have no way to prove your innocence..
Pass it on……
Let more people be aware of such things around them.

Malaysia's top nutritionist on eggs
Malaysia's top nutritionist on eggs
Very Important, EGG is good for cancer too.
Dr JB Lim is the current TOP Nutritionist in Malaysia .
Dear all,
Thank you for asking me.
Sometime back someone asked me the same question about eggs and its effect on health. I have already written and replied to him or her in a lengthy article supporting the nutritive and health benefits of eggs. I also gave scientific updates on more recent findings some of which are correctly given here as sent to me.
However the author of the article need to give at least some references of papers published in scientific journals to support the claims even though they are right.
But to super-summarize what I wrote last time in just 13 lines without me having to go all over again explaining the complexities of physiology, biochemistry, nutritional pathogenesis related to eggs and waste time and effort again, below are the yes points about eggs in human nutrition.
But I have to leave out some minor no points since the positive benefits far outweigh its negative values.
1. Eggs and milk are among the best foods for the body especially to a growing child.
2. Eggs do not cause an elevation of blood cholesterol
3. Eggs do not clog up the coronary vessels as once thought. In fact the opposite is now true
4. Eggs are low in energy value, and is a factor to consider in the formulation of a caloric-restriction diet
5. Eggs protein quality is extremely high, and has a very high nitrogen-retention value. Hence it is extremely useful in post-surgical care, trauma, and in post-management of hypovolemic shock against negative nitrogen balance
6. Eggs contain vitamin D in its natural form. The benefits of vitamin D require several chapters on human nutrition in medicine to discuss. And I refuse to repeat
7. Eggs are cancer-protective, especially for breast cancer
8. Eggs are very rich in sulfur-containing amino acids methionine which is a very crucial amino-acid in blocking damaging free radicals. These are directly linked to the pathogenesis of heart disease, cancers, DNA damage, all degenerative disorders, and accelerated aging.
9. Eggs protect against fatty liver, slow growth, macular degeneration (degeneration of the macula area of the retina in the eyes. This is responsible for central vision for reading, face recognition and detailed vision), edema (water retention), and various skin lesions
10. Eggs promote healthy growth of nails, hair and skin
11. Eggs are rich in tryphophan, selenium, iodine, and riboflavin (vitamin B2)
12. Eggs selenium content is cardio-protective against Keshan disease, cardiomyopathies (diseases involving the heart muscles, cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), myocardial dysfunction (poor heart function) and death from heart failure.
13. Eggs are protective against Kashin-Beck disease (osteoarthropathy), myxedematous endemic cretinism (mental retardation)
14. The list goes on…on!
A harvest of security for those who returned
By Raymond Zhou and Huang Yiming (China Daily)
Farm played crucial role for overseas Chinese forced to flee, Raymond Zhou and Huang Yiming report in Hainan.
That was in the early 1960s when Xinglong was the farm where thousands of overseas Chinese settled down after being driven out of their adopted countries. When the first 756 settlers arrived on Oct 13, 1951, things were even worse.
Today, Xinglong has a population of 25,000 and covers an area of 110 square kilometers. Many of the pioneers have retired or passed away. Du, 71, recently opened an Indonesian restaurant which is managed by his children and attracts busloads of tourists who want a taste of Southeast Asia.
Driving around Xinglong, half way on the south-north expressway on Hainan Island, one gets a perfect picture of a tropical paradise, with wide, clean boulevards and colorful buildings, and of course all kinds of tropical plants that provide economic value or simply visual splendor.
In early 1954, Li Qingquan decided to forgo the relative comfort of metropolitan Guangzhou and volunteered to "go to the place with the most hardship". Unlike Du, he was not deterred by what he saw in Xinglong. Instead, he was determined to make it his home and turn it into a better place.
He had been living in Malaya (now Malaysia) until he was arrested and sentenced to 17 years in prison for communist political activities. After serving two years, during which time he says he made "endless trouble for prison authorities", he and dozens of other prisoners of Chinese ethnicity were deported.
"They told me life was so hard in Xinglong that people were dropping like flies. But I insisted on coming here," said Li, 88, who despite his years is still robust and spirited. He chose to work at a brickyard, and a year after arriving was married.
Most of the first to arrive were blue-collar workers from Malaya, and the reasons for their being expelled were mostly ideological subversion. The second wave of 1,400 immigrants was like Du, small proprietors from Indonesia, slightly wealthier and less politically driven. The third surge did not happen until the late 1970s when Vietnam forced out hundreds of thousands of ethnic Chinese who had been living there for generations. Some 6,000 ended up in Xinglong, although roughly half later left.
"The Chinese word huaqiao, meaning overseas Chinese, is a misnomer when applied here," Du said. "We were huaqiao while we were in Southeast Asia, but as soon as we came back to China we were refugees, or returned huaqiao."
Perhaps for the sake of simplicity, Xinglong is known as a "huaqiao farm". Nationwide, there are 84 such farms, including five in Hainan province. Xinglong is one of the largest and best known.
But what is in a name? Xinglong started as a collective farm and later came under State ownership. For some time it took on the title of a "people's commune" or "People's Liberation Army Production and Construction Corp" to go with political winds. It also fell under various offices of jurisdiction, for the most time supervised by the provincial-level Overseas Chinese Office, and most recently the local government.
"There is a government fund for huaqiao on our farm, which disburses 1 million to 2 million yuan ($158,000 to $315,000) each year," said Chen You, vice-president of Xinglong Huaqiao Farm. "Other than that, we're on our own."
He said the people who arrived from Vietnam also received financial assistance from the United Nations for the first five years.
Like all trailblazers, the first generation suffered the biggest setbacks. But it was not the physical hardship or the material scarcity that struck them the hardest; it was the political upheavals.
"When I was tortured in Malaya, I didn't shed a tear," Li said. "But I couldn't control myself when I was accused of being a Kuomintang spy in the late 1960s."
Having prized himself on being a model worker on the farm, "I believed my name would be cleared", he said. When his father returned to China for a visit in 1970, Li convinced him to stay on so people would realize the whole family had been nothing but unadulterated material for Communism.
Du remembers leaders from the top would also visit. "Liao Chengzhi, who was in charge of overseas Chinese affairs, would have his secretary call the farm to inquire about our living conditions," said the former vice-president of the farm and now president of the Xinglong Indonesian Huaqiao Association.
Legacy
Rubber trees have been a staple enterprise for Xinglong. "The seeds brought back by huaqiao were of superior quality, and together with their technical know-how, the first generation was able to plant high-grade rubber trees and harvest top-quality latex," Chen said.
A rubber tree can yield an average of 240 yuan per year, and Xinglong turns the sap over to a local processor that manages the next link in the manufacturing chain.
Aside from a rubber plantation, the farm thrives on its Chinese fruits, such as lychee and longan. Xinglong coffee also has such a good name there is simply not enough to supply the local market, Du said. "Our old president used to say, 'Xinglong is a good place and we should build it into another Hong Kong'."
If he was referring to tourism, it's already taking shape.
Unlike popular destinations such as Haikou and Sanya, the central part of Hainan Island, including Xinglong, is still relatively underdeveloped, although the travel industry accounts for an increasingly large share of the local economy.
"We're reserving west of the Sun River for agriculture, but east of the river is seeing the sprouting of tourism," Chen said. Part of the reason is the east area used to be hit the hardest by typhoons and other natural disasters. "Bananas planted there were destroyed most years," he added.
The east has hot springs, too. As a matter of fact, Chen doubles as the general manager of Xinglong Hot Spring Hotel, one of dozens of such facilities that offer a total of 6,000 beds and receive an annual 1.2 million visitors.
Integration
Despite suspicion by some veteran staff, the integration into the local administration has been a boon for the farm. Not only are projects of infrastructure more readily funded but squabbles with native residents over land use have been dramatically reduced.
As integration with the local economy goes forward, the line between huaqiao and native farmers is becoming blurred. The first generation has largely retired, and their children have more freedom to choose jobs and locations. Today, there are some 6,000 huaqiao in Xinglong, and their ratio in the population has dropped from a high of 80 to 90 percent to 35 to 40 percent.
"Do you still call it a huaqiao farm if it's not predominantly staffed by huaqiao?" asked Lei Yuanyan, who returned to China in 1958 at the age of 12. He said he believes that more huaqiao should be in management positions on the farm, as well as in farm-owned or farm-operated businesses.
"Huaqiao are an asset to China," Du said. After being back in the country for half a century, he and other first-generation returnees from Indonesia can still speak fluent Indonesian, a language that very few Chinese have bothered to learn but is useful when it comes to trade. Even an army language school once sent its students to Xinglong to practice their Bahasa Indonesia.
Old huaqiao have infused the local scene with a flavor of Southeast Asia; their habits of drinking coffee and eating exotic foods or cuisine have enlivened Xinglong. They also organize parties that feature singing and dancing styles from the countries where they grew up, and their contact with relatives and friends in those faraway places has been exemplary grassroots diplomacy and effective in spreading goodwill.
However, their fear of a diminishing identity is not unfounded. They are being marginalized. The ground for their uniqueness no longer exists.
Take daily language, for example. In the 1950s and 60s, the dialects most spoken in Xinglong were Hakka and Cantonese. People on the farm rarely interacted with those outside. Now, everyone speaks Mandarin and few reveal their backgrounds by how they speak. You can hardly tell who is a farmhand on the official huaqiao farm and who is a native or a migrant from another part of China.
"We have always cherished the label of huaqiao," Du said. "It's hard for early settlers to plant trees, but easier for late-comers to enjoy the shade."
Lei concurs: "We have enormous pride in our status as huaqiao. The central government has always treated us with preferential policies. But Xinglong no longer belongs to huaqiao alone. It's the homeland of huaqiao, natives and demobilized soldiers.
"We just want our children to remember that Xinglong is the result of their parents' hard work."
The World's Shrewdest Businessman
Don't mess with the Sugar King, Jibby
cronies could enjoy the profits, and how Malaysia 's economy suffered as a result.
Recently, the govt offended Robert Kuok. As a result, the Malaysian economy suffered a great blow. And now, after Chinese Premier
WJiabao's visit to Malaysia , Najib's administration truly understands Robert Kuok's influence in China .
Crony got richer, Malaysia got poorer
UMNO cronies are loyal when there's easy money for the taking. To keep them happy, Najib twisted Robert Kuok's arm to get the
profits from his sugar empire. As a result, UMNO cronies got richer by tens of billions of ringgit. But it caused a national loss of
more than 200 billion for Malaysia as a whole!
(Those who have insider knowledge on this are still cursing until God knows when.)
So, the Malaysian sugar king was forced to leave his own country, but ironically, he has now become the world's sugar emperor.
How? He bought the world's largest sugar mills in Australia , investing a cool 10 billion US dollars.
So, Najib's government benefited a few UMNO families at the expense of national interests. Very ungrateful, when it is a known fact
that Robert Kuok had given a lot of help to the Malaysian Govt for several decades. A Chinese idiomatic expression calls this 'turning
a pig's intestine inside out' because on the other side is a lot of shit.
Palm oil slap in the face
In the global political gossip columns, insiders are smiling because Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Malaysia hit a snag with Najib.
How? You see, before this visit, Najib and his cabinet had hinted several times that they hoped China would double the amount of palm
oil imports from Malaysia .
China is the largest buyer of Malaysian palm oil. But there is strong competition with Indonesia , which is trying to sell palm oil at lower
prices to China and India . Najib is very worried about this. So during the official visit, he hoped to seal a new palm oil trading contract
with China , to double the average of 10 million tonnes sold by Malaysia every month.
But Wen Jiabao said that this was impossible. Najib was very disappointed. He knew the Chinese market demand; even for China to
import 1,000,000 tonnes per day is not a problem. So where was the problem?
The problem was that Robert Kuok did not agree!
How was Robert Kuok able to influence China 's decision? Who owns the monopoly of China 's national oil market? The market leader
is Arowana cooking oil, accounting for nearly 40% of the market. And the Arowana cooking oil boss is, Robert Kuok!
Think about it. If Premier Wen Jiabao had agreed to buy more Malaysian palm oil, who is going to refine it into cooking oil? Privatised enterprises, of course! With 40% market share, if the Arowana cooking oil company refuses the additional supply, how is the Chinese
government going to utilise the extra crude palm oil?
Najib, insensible from the start, did not know that Kuok was so influential in China . By helping UMNO cronies get rich, he jeopardized
the prosperity of Malaysia and its ordinary people.
Ask what Kuok has done for his country
After losing his throne, the Sugar King left Malaysia , understandably disappointed and unhappy. Many people still remember that, in the
early days of Malaysia , we did not have aviation professionals, and the BN govt asked Kuok's father to help set up Malayan Airways.
In the 1970s, our maritime industry was also a vacuum, and Malaysian govt sent representatives to Hong Kong to request Kuok's help.
For the sake of national development, Kuok put aside the Group's business and returned to Malaysia to help establish a national shipping
industry. This later became MISC, the Malaysia International Shipping Corp.
When Malaysia repeatedly faced economy difficulties, Robert Kuok was a big help. He even posted bail for MCA's Tan Koon Swan's
CBT case. The govt owes Robert Kuok a great deal, but it used strong-arm tactics to forcefully take over Kuok's sugar empire in Malaysia .
Truly ungrateful.
Kuok's relationship with China
When Deng Xiaoping announced China 's reforms, he needed aid from generous overseas Chinese entrepreneurs. Robert Kuok promptly
joined other helping hands in the Chinese economic miracle such as Hong Kong 's Henry Fok and Li Ka-shing. Kuok was the first to
respond to Deng Xiaoping in Beijing and built China 's first five-star hotel (Shangri-La).
Kuok has over 30 years of friendship with China 's leadership. Najib failed to recognise this when he ate Kuok's sugar empire in Malaysia ,
partly to benefit the business connections of his greedy fat 'vampire' wife's family. Imagine doing this to an international tycoon – what
humiliation in return for patriotic help in the past, from his own country?
Early this year, Kuok announced plans to invest US$10 billion in Indonesia to develop refineries in the world's largest sugarcane growing
areas. The global economy was facing a downturn. The Malaysian govt traveled the world to solicit investments. How much was
Malaysia ’s foreign investment? Kuok’s single investment in Indonesia was equivalent to US$10 billion! Of course, when the news hit
the papers, he was criticized for being 'unpatriotic', preferring to take so much money to Indonesia instead of Malaysia . Can you smell
the bullshit?
For the moment, Malaysia 's palm oil trade with China will remain on agreed terms (no increase). Indonesia has more palm oil than
Malaysia – cheaper too. Now that Kuok has invested so much money in Indonesia , its govt treats him like a god of wealth. Certainly
open to negotiations on anything. Moreover, Indonesia has been eyeing the opportunity to take over the palm oil supply contract from
Malaysia .
At least give the beggars (UMNO?) something – frozen durian
Buying frozen durian was the consolation China gave instead of buying more Malaysian palm oil.
Business needs more than cow sense. Who ever supplies millions of ringgit in frozen durian to a brand-new market with small durian consumption? How much time and effort is needed to market frozen durian from Malaysia ? Thai durian does not sell well in China ,
let alone frozen durian from Malaysia . If the market is proven non-receptive to frozen durian, how do we deal with return goods?
A total loss with capital. Is this how to do business?
Kuok is not just China 's top hotelier, king of cooking oil, and the world’s sugar emperor. He is also the patent owner of the Coca-Cola
soft drink brand in the Chinese market. He is also involved in a diverse range of businesses in China , and has created millions of jobs
there. The Beijing central leadership has great respect for him as a savvy and powerful entrepreneur. When the man speaks, the weight
of his words can be far-reaching.
And yet, Robert Kuok is one of the few outstanding Malaysians who has never accepted any of the high-faluting titles which are churned
out every year for 'distinguished' VIPs. Many people address him as Tan Sri or Datuk Robert Kuok when in fact, he does not have such
titles and needs none.

What A Man...
And here is the response :
All non-Malay must read this
All non-Malay must read this, it's interesting!
The Truth Revealed (with evidence)!
In June 1998, the government of Malaysia had hired a team of experts from all over the world to be gathered here in Malaysia for a research project to compliment the history studies that we undertook in our secondary school.
The objective of the research is simply:
1. To find proof and evidence that show the Malays were the origins of Malaysia and they were the first race and religion that landed their feet in Malaysia.
2. To further strengthen their claims, first they need to find the graveyard of the Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu and others.. to show the existence of their pioneers.
3. The Batu Bersurat in Terengganu, reveals that the islamic religion has landed in Malaysia for more than a hundred years ago which further strengthen their claims!
BEWARE & OPEN YOUR EYES!!! Go and ask your brother, sister, niece, nephew etc. Since the year 1999 (if I’m not mistaken) or year 2000, do they study about HANG TUAH anymore?
Why is that popular subject GONE? Missing in action? or evidence reveals something else that caused the government to stop the syllabus and HIDE the TRUTH?
Here are the Evidences of the findings by the team of scientists, archaeologist, historian and other technical staff from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Yemen & Russia.
The evidence are:
1) They finally found the graveyard of Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat and others, their skeletons had been analyzed and samples of DNA taken with the results showing: Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu and mates were NOT MALAY!!! They were CHINESE origins (Islamic) from China!!! Why were they here in Malacca? If you go back in history, you would know that they were on a mission to protect the UNGRATEFUL MALAY Sultanate from the frequent attacks by the Kingdom of SIAM (Thailand).
So Hang Tuah was not a Malay hero! They were the protectors of the useless and ungrateful Parameswara (who was from INDONESIA) who landed in Malacca and claimed that the land belonged to him!
Hang Tuah and friends were all from China, they were being assigned to the Malacca Sultanate because Parameswara requested the Ming Dynasty Emperor for protection! Hence, the rich historical heritage of the Babas & Nyonyas were being closely linked to the Seven Voyages to the Western Ocean by Admiral Zheng He who incidentally was a Chinese Muslim himself!
That's why the Hang Tuah series of history is MISSING from the Malaysian SEJARAH today!
Note: Remember Princess Hang Li Poh? - All surname 'HANG'
Second Evidence:
The researchers hired by the government found the oldest tombstones (graveyard) in Kelantan in year 2000. Surprisingly, the tombstones were at least 900 years old! Older than the so-called Batu Bersurat. And the interesting thing was that they all belonged to the CHINESE!
Being landed first in Malacca doesn't mean Malay is the first in Malaysia because during that time, the road was too long or undeveloped for them to reach or see the other side of the coast where the Chinese had landed much earlier. If you want the hard evidence of what the truth of the Research reveals, please write to The Federal Association of Archaeology & Research of Michigan, USA.
This is a good reason to remind the Bumiputras NOT to ask the Chinese or Indians to go back to their Motherlands because the evidence had shown that Malays were NOT the original people of Malaysia! The Truth Revealed (with evidence) and anthropologists have yet to ascertain if there was indeed a Malay race!
Send this to all your non Malay friends so that they are aware where their roots come from…………..
George Soros's piece - There is more than meet the eye
The corruption of Mahathir: by George Soros - published by Bangkok Post
George Soros is not only one of the best investors in the world but very well informed too. He has spelt clearly what Malaysians have known all the while. Malaysia with all the riches in raw materials should have a stronger currency but what started one for one equivalent with S'pore 30 yrs ago now has lost out to S'pore currency by 2.3 times. Now Malaysians know why.......
Soros has explained in very great detail..... Of course one cannot get to read this in the main media in Malaysia .
Taxpayers and voters were made to pay for his visionary expenses enriching selected vendors along the way all paid by taxpayer or rakyat's money. The corruption of Mahathir: SOROS' REPLY TO MAHATHIR - Adapted from Bangkok Post (Not published locally)
I have always said Dr Mahathir is a menace to his own people. Now onlyyou can see the effects of his foolishness when the ringgit has halved its value overnight and your economy goes kaput. Single handedly you have caused hardship to millions of your own people. You have built useless mega projects at tremendous cost to the country.
The telecoms tower in Kuala Lumpur and the highest building in the world show how stupid you are. Not only does it cause massive traffic jam, it has totally no purpose. If you need high ground for telecoms antennae a nearby mountain is there for free. This tower has no purpose from the ground up to 300 metres. The satelites make this totally unneccesary. A fool and his money are soon parted. The only thing is you are the fool and the money belongs to Malaysians. You make 20% in every project, you have real estate in Japan and billions of shares corruptly acquired.
Your 3 sons are worth 8 billion US$. Where do they get this money? Of course, corruption. You are known as the Marcos of Malaysia, having enriched yourself to the tune of billions. You dare to shed crocodile tears during UMNO delegates meeting about the ills of corruption. Yet you are the most corrupt of all the prime ministers before you. A thief is crying thief and hopes people look the other way. Who dares to say anything when the chief is caught with his hands in the candy jar?
You said wisdom is not the monopoly of the West. So is foolishness. You have more foolishness than most people would believe. Billions are used to build two high rise Petronas buildings that benefit nobody. They now stand tall, a symbol of stupidity and irresponsibility. Instead they just add on to traffic jams. What is this reclamation of 10 islands off Kedah? Totally absurd and stupid. Of course your benefit is 20%. And the bridge across from Malacca to Sumatra across international waters?
Why not build a bridge to the moon? I am sure you still can get your 20%. You called me a Moron . How can a Moron make so much money. By allowing short selling and borrowing millions of shares from your banks we fund managers made millions out of your inexperience and poor regulations.
You lose all Malaysians' money, therefore you are the Moron . Now you know too late and start crying over spilt milk.
In Australia you are known as *the recalcitrant ego maniac*; in UK *the corrupt bastard* because of your stupid purchase of our movie studio and the 290 million ringgit Lotus racing car plant and the shady Pergau dam loans from the UK . They are useless to us and you still want to buy them.
What about buying British reject submarines through your agent, of course. The agent/ broker is designed to make millions out of the Malaysian government..
Your purchase of our battleships is at least 50% more than others are paying. Your purchase of 9 hospitals from UK lock, stock and barrel does not support your local architects or your industry and the British send you obsolete medical equipment. The design is atrocious, one end to the other is half a kilometer and there is no CT-scan, an absolute necessity.
In the UK your face appears in no less than 17 newspapers as a corrupt dictator. In Malaysia you are known as *the (IBM) International Big Mouth.* In Japan they call you *the 'smallest one' (brain size)*. In Pacific islands, *the Santa Claus (giving advice left and right). * In south America they call you *the parrot (he talks a lot but does not know what it is about)*. *In Manila the living Marcos**.*
In Malaysia they are spending millions to lure tourists and you talk rubbish scaring every foreigner away. When he is dumb he is doubted a fool, when he opens his mouth it removes all doubt."
While I agree the West does not have the monopoly to wisdom, your actions are not the wisest either. Your EAEC has totally no support even in Asean. Your South-South dialogue meets with the same fate and what is this I hear of the Bridge from Peninsula Malaysia to Sumatra covering 20 miles across International shipping lane?
How crazy can one get? Even the Japanese don't have the money. This world's stupidity seems to be concentrated in one man's mind - yours.
* The multimedia super corridor - MSC -. Well in USA its Most Stupid Concept *because we Americans, would have thought of it light years before. Even if it makes money, we can copy this concept can't we?
Why do you want to spend your hard-earned money doing questionable projects? It will be like the Bakun project. Abandoned fund wasted and another white elephant. I always say politicians should not be involved in business. Your ministers are also businessmen and almost every official is enriching himself. Look at *Rafidah Aziz*, selling thousands of Approved
Permits (APs) for cars each worth 20-30 thousand Malaysian dollars. Why not your government sell them and make the money? She has acquired millions of shares meant for bumis for free before she agrees to list them.
Look at *your Selangor Chief Minister *collecting millions for approving high rise buildings from businessman. He is worth a few billions. Unfortunately he was caught with a few million pocket money in Australia. Every Chief minister is awarding useless projects to his cronies then collecting secret pay offs on the side. The Land Development Boards and the Economic Development Boards are used to bail out any loses suffered by politicians. The profits they keep, the loses they force the Government bodies to absorb. How can your poor ever close the gap when every good deal is snatched by your politicians? How can your country get out of poverty if all the billions of corruption money is taken out of the country?
Look at *the Sarawak Chief Minister *selling billions worth of timber concessions under the table; selling every piece of state land to businessmen without tender; using his own companies to obtain lucrative government contracts; selling approval signatures for a fee 'you pay I approve'. He has 8 billion US stashed overseas. Thousands of acres of land are given to one or two companies while thousands of poor people still live in cardboard makeshift homes; have no water and shit into the river...
Thousands of acres of land are sold to companies for plantations while the natives do not have even one acre to their name. He is selling sand near the beaches to one company for earth filling and then ask the government to spend millions to protect the coastline when erosion occurs.
He lost 300 million of the Sarawak government money trying to make computer chips. He has built a port in Northern Sarawak town in water so shallow it needs dredging every year. The Prime Minister built highways without tender, your cronies get the deal and the price double. Your Langkawi airport runway was built double the cost by your own company, Ekran.
The Malaysian nation has lost at least 30 billions during your last 10 years of corrupt rule. One billion lost from t*he purchase of phantom Skyhawk** war planes* nobody has ever seen (are they still in the Nevada desert, USA?). 3 billion lost from the London tin scandal (you thought you could corner the *London tin market* without knowing the Americans have a stockpile! Stupidity at its best. 6 billion Perwaja steel mill where nobody even knows where the money goes, 3 billion* bank Bumiputra scandal*when George Tan bribed all the bank officials to lend him the money.. 6 billion *forex lost by Bank Negara (*the fool and his money are soon parted) and 6 billion to* build three of the world's tallest buildings* (built by Japanese and Koreans and furniture imported from France - not Malaysia) and 1 billion lost from *purchase of British warships* including fees paid to the broker and under the table.. *Add the 10 billion you stole and 5 billion taken by Ministers.*
In the 1997 the World Journalists meeting voted Dr Mahathir the Prime Minister of the Decade. It sounded strange to everybody until it was revealed those who voted against are threatened by IRD officers and with losing their jobs. In New York the United Nations 1997 meeting, the most corrupt Prime Minister of the decade is President Suharto and second Dr Mahathir (Actually Dr Mahathir should take first place but bribed the Indonesians to take honour of Number One.
There are Fifty thousand of your university students not given places in Malaysia but are good enough for places overseas resulting in billions of dollars lost. The British and the Australians are thinking how stupid. Your best students are sent overseas raising their standards while as in most countries the best are kept in local universities and the rejects sent overseas..A university student in Hong Kong is much more prestigious than any Australian counterpart. You have been colonised by the British so long you cannot even educate your own people. Look at Hong Kong or Singapore, less than 5% study overseas. All the money saved. Your country could save billions if every student overseas is recalled to a local university, and at the same time raising your own standards.
Your people are still without shoes, without land to farm, without homes, bathing in rivers shitting in holes in the ground, without water and electricity. Your cities are concrete jungles without greenery and open spaces. Your KL is jammed with traffic. Yet you still keep on building high rises. You should come down from the clouds and stop daydreaming and firmly plant your feet in the ground. Your schools are cramped 500 students to an acre and thousands of acres are given free to some politicians who leave them idle. Your parks are being taken by politicians to build shophouses and every cabinet minister is a land-grabbing businessman who builds roads only to their cronies' land.
The Malaysians' Prayer, "Ya Allah, we thank you for your gifts of timber, oil and grain. But then the devil sent us corrupt Mahathir without a Brain and look we are back to square one again. So just take Dr Mahathir back to Hell And we will be alive and well."
In China people have been shot for embezzling one thousand dollars. With 8 billion you have stolen, therefore you would be shot 80 thousand times. Now you are leading an anti-corruption campaign. We all know what you should do. Look yourself in the mirror. You see the crooked you. Then use your left hand and handcuff your right hand. You have put the opposition leader
and his son in jail when they said in parliament you are the richest PM in the world. And his colleague Mr Karpal Singh too for 2 years.
So I get a reward or bribe if I now say you are the poorest PM in this world? Your 3 sons are sitting on the board of directors of more than 200 companies. They must have been educated in Harvard school of business and obtained distinctions? Or is it "you don't know me, you don't do business in Malaysia" law that applies. Billions of ringgit of Employee's Provident Fund and public Petronas funds are used to bail out your sons who make losses investing in every venture you thought you could make money. How unethical and corrupt. Every one of your politicians is sitting on the board of tens of companies making thousands without any effort, lending their VIP names to borrow millions from local banks without collateral. Now these have become non- performing loans. Now you want 20 million Malaysians to sacrifice for the folly of ONE man? Why not the fool resign and admit he wasted and took most of the money. I could teach you how to put your economy on track but first you must apologize to the Malaysian people.
Sincerely,
George Soros
