Shake on a plane? FAA investigating after students film Harlem Shake video during flight

The latest craze to sweep the Internet is bringing college students the wrong kind of attention -- from the Federal Aviation Administration.

During a flight from Colorado Springs to San Diego, a group of students started the Harlem Shake, a dance to a song of the same name.

In the suddenly popular YouTube videos, one person starts dancing, then the video cuts to a large group of people dancing, many in costume.

Matt Zelin, a sophomore, told the Colorado College newspaper, The Catalyst, he asked a flight attendant for permission beforehand.

FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said Thursday they're looking at what phase the flight was in during the dance in the aisles.

Frontier Airlines says the seatbelt sign was off and safety measures were followed.

A politician named Obama who is running for governor in Kenya can boast of one big claim to fame on the campaign trail: blood relations with the president of the United States.

Malik Obama — a half-brother of Barack Obama — is running for a governor's position in the country's nationwide elections on Monday, though he said he's not sure what impact his relationship to the American president has on his campaign.

"I'm going into it as Malik Obama," he said in a phone interview with The Associated Press from western Kenya. "I can't run away from my name and association with my brother, but I have the feeling that people somewhat want to see who the brother of Obama is."

The president's relative even invokes the message that Barack Obama leaned on during his groundbreaking 2008 political campaign: Change. Malik Obama says his platform is poverty eradication, infrastructure development and industrialization.

"I hope that you all out there will support me and vote for me for this important position so that we can bring change to the county of Siaya," Obama said at a recent campaign stop.

Kenyans on Monday will cast ballots for a wide range of regional offices, but the most crucial vote is for president. Monday is Kenya's first nationwide election since the 2007 vote devolved into massive tribal violence that killed more than 1,000 people and displaced 600,000 from their homes.

The 54-year-old Malik Obama hopes to become the first governor of Kenya's western county of Siaya. He is running as an independent candidate. Kenya's new 2010 constitution created 47 new political divisions known as counties, to be headed by governors.

Obama is competing against candidates who are from well-funded parties, and the political newcomer may be in need of campaign cash. He asked an AP Television News freelance cameraman to contribute to his campaign. No contribution was given. Obama said he was asking for the individual to contribute, not for AP to contribute.

This is Malik Obama's first run for office.

Barack Obama's father was from Kenya and the U.S. president has several relatives in the country. Malik and Barack Obama have the same father but different mothers.

Because ordering obscene amounts of french fries at McDonald's and sharing them among friends is apparently a thing kids are doing in Japan and Korea these days, a group of kids recently got kicked out of a McDonald's in Korea for ordering $250 worth of fries. According to RocketNews24, McDonald's has recently unleashed a promotion in Japan and Korea offering a large-size order of fries on the cheap, which naturally means that teenagers going in and order as many as possible.

This particular group supposedly dropped 270,000 won ($250) on McDonald's fries, spreading them out across a large table on their trays. This, of course, caused a lot of delays at the restaurant and a whole lot of anger until "a McDonald's worker decided he had had enough of these shenanigans and told the kids, 'Stop causing trouble, you brats! Get out of here!'" But no, these french fry hounding teens are not been treated as the heroes they are. As it so happens, the Internet has apparently sided with the Man on this one, which some commenters writing that the kids should be reported to McDonald's headquarters and others writing, "I'd cry if this happened in my local store."

Justine Betti, Linden High School Student, Tapes Teacher Allegedly Stealing From Students' Lockers

Sometimes, spending gym class stuffed in your locker can be a positive experience.

Linden High School sophomore Justine Betti is a hero today after she stopped a string of thefts from student lockers, reports ABC News’ Sacramento affiliate KXTV. Each theft occurred during gym classes, so Betti climbed into a locker armed with a cell phone video camera to catch the mystery thief on the prowl. She was shocked to capture her teacher -- a 30-year veteran of the classroom -- rummaging through backpacks and allegedly pocketing cash.

“It was really scary. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. I can’t believe I just got this on video,'" Betti told KXTV. "I didn’t want to believe that she would do something like that because she was so nice, but then she did it."

The school's principal told Betti that she should delete the video and that the issue would be resolved, Betti told KXTV. But Betti had already sent the footage to her father, she said.

The principal's response sparked one reaction on greatschools.org, where an anonymous reviewer posted that he or she was dissatisfied with the reaction as described by Betti.

"I was very upset at the story of the gym teacher who allegedly stole from students backpacks from their lockers," the reviewer wrote. "Now the real problem, the principal ... instructing the students to erase the tapes."

Another anonymous reviewer on the site, who described himself or herself as a current senior at the high school, called Linden a "community and or family in which we all tolerate each other," but also said that "there are maybe four or five teachers that are absolutely amazing, but the rest are just at par with my expectations."

CBS affiliate WFMY spoke to students at the school who heard about the theft.

"It's not right for a teacher, especially without students being there, to go through a backpack," student Matt Horton said, according to WFMY.

Tammy Snider, a parent, told the station, "I think it's crazy. It's sad."

School officials said that the teacher has been placed on leave, and administrators told ABCNews.com that a deeper investigation is underway. Administrators did not name the teacher, and no criminal charges have been filed.

Bungling workers flushed thousands of litres of whisky down the drain at a bottling plant by accident.

Staff are thought to have dumped the spirit by mistake during a night shift while they cleaned equipment.

Instead of emptying out waste water at Chivas Brothers in Dumbarton they chucked out the whisky.

The boozy smell was so strong that sewage workers reported the odour.

Chivas Brothers said the incident on Tuesday night was being investigated.

A statement added: “There has been no release of spirit to the River Leven or any other local water course.”

The West Dunbartonshire plant employs 600 workers and produces Ballantine’s, the world’s second biggest-selling brand of whisky.

Scottish Water said: “We are continuing to closely monitor our Dumbarton waste water treatment works to ensure that the treatment has not been compromised.”
